Nissan Repair: a/c compressor, nissan maxima, inner fender

Question
How to Replace the a/c compressor in a 1999 Nissan Maxima

Answer
Tony,

Jack the car up.  Remove the passenger side tire, front.  Remove the inner fender well and lower plastic cover and you have access to the compressor.  If you still have a charge go to a shop and have it evacuated before you remove the lines.  Then, it is just a matter of removing the belt, lines and harness.  Now, unbolt the compressor and remove it.  Assembly is the reverse.  Be sure you put the required amount of oil in the compressor.  It should be PAG oil since you have a R134 system.  It is a pain to put oil in once the compressor is installed.  After you have it installed have the system evacuated and charged.  You are probably going to need a receiver dryer as well depending on what took out your compressor.  If the system has been open or the compressor has shelled internally you will need to replace the receiver dryer.  Also, for compressor warranty they pretty much demand you replace it.
