Nissan Repair: 1993 4x4 nissian pathfinder transmission, lockup torque converter, forward speeds

I have to let off the gas pedal in order for the transmission to shift in all gears. Exactly how many gears is there. it tacks about 2000 at 45mph when overdrive is off and about 1200 at 45mph with overdrive.

The vehicle has three forward speeds and an overdrive that makes four.  Also, it has a lockup torque converter.  The shifting problem is most probably associated with a governor, the thing that the transmission uses to upshift, being sticky.  You might try a filter fluid change.  But, if that does not do the trick you are looking at having the transmission removed and gone through.
