Nissan Repair: 1990 Nissan Pickup Clutch Problem, clutch master cylinder, cylinder seals

Question
Hi, I have a 1990 Nissan Pickup that the clutch works fine on most of the time.  Occasionally, the clutch will go lax, and engage about halfway to the floor when I push it in.  When this happens, shifting is out of the question.  If it was already in gear, and I stop, the truck stalls as if the clutch isn't depressed at all.  Is this something I can fix or does it need to be taken to the shop?

Answer
Mel,

The clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder seals are going.  The slave usually goes first.  But, due to the age of the vehicle you might as wel replace both.  rockauto.com is a good source for quality parts that are reasonable as is courtesyparts.com  You can fix it yourself by replacing both components and bleeding the system..Get a Haynes Manual and follow the directions.  If you a friend that has bled a clutch cyctme before would help too.  You need someone to press the pedal while you open and close the bleeder screw, inder the truck, on the slave cylinder.
