Nissan Repair: Nissan Seat Belt, seat belt replacement, ballpark figure

Question
My drivers side seat belt started malfunctioning a few days ago.  I could not get it out all the way without it locking and then yesterday it would not pull out at all. I fiddled with it for a while, pulled the plastic cover off, etc. But it didn't budge.  I won't mess with the mechanism, especially since it seems to be one solid, welded unit.

I don't think I should have to pay labor and a new seat belt for something like this. My Xterra is an 01, not that old, and I keep it in good shape, but a dealer said it would be at least $250. with labor and parts. Would the Nissan corporation pay for this to be fixed? Shouldn't seatbelts work for more than 8 years?

Answer
Hi Dan -

That is an awful lot to pay for a seat belt replacement. It is very easy to replace, however you will need the tools.

First of all, I think it is out of warranty. Even the extended warranty goes only 5 years. Might want to check on that, though, I may be wrong.

Is there another place you can take your car to? I am sure you can get it replaced for half that price. If you want, I can price one for you so you know the ballpark figure.

Let me know -
