Nissan Repair: Air intake system, oil pressure switch, mass airflow sensor

Question
98 maxima, will fire then die on cold starts. cleaned carbon from Idle air control and noticed mass build up in port to EGR temp sensor. If I take the entire EGR system apart and clean, do you think this will correct the problem? or do I need to look into ingnition?

Answer
Jared,

Usually, the idle air control valve is the problem with the start, then die condition.  Also, check the mass airflow sensor.  Get a Haynes Manual and a volt/ohm meter to check the values of each.

Another cause would be the oil pressure switch since the ECM uses it to determine if the engine is running.  After so many seconds the fuel pump relay will cut off if no oil pressure is detected.
