Nissan Repair: maxima starter problems, nissan maxima, starter problems

Question
I have a 98 Nissan maxima and this is the second time i have replaced the starter in the last three months. I was told to try a tune up after they rebuilt the starter again. The machine said i wore out the brushes. Could something else be causing this problem with the starter.

Answer
Deborah,

It is not you or the car.  The brushes were probably defective.  Now, if you have not had a tuneup in several years replace the sparkplugs and the PCV valve and the air filter.  That would be an easy fix.  But, that would only be an issue if you had extended starting issues.  That is, if the car takes a long time to actually start.
