Nissan Repair: 2001 Nissan Xterra problems, mass airflow sensor, nissan xterra

Question
QUESTION: A few days ago I was on a trip up to the snow and my dash meters went
wacky. At the same time I felt a jolt and it felt as if my governor almost. The
car seemed to run fine after I pulled over and turned it off and back on.
However this has happened a couple more times. Now today as I am headed
to the snow again this same issue happens only to add the car is not letting
me go more then 10 mph off and on lugging as I shifted into N then Drive it
would let me go until I reached the place I was going. I got out snowboarded
all day and drove home for 1 hr and no problems. What could this be?
Thank you so much for you time.

ANSWER: Trula,

Nissan vehicles have an issue with really cold weather.  I bet if you have the car garaged or in a warmer place then the snow boarding place you should be fine.  If not, disconnect the battery and reconnect after five minutes to reset the computer.  Email me back if you need more.

QUESTION: I have had my xterra in the shop for a week. I got new plugs wires, fluids in the
trans and motor. Valve gasket cover and radiator. I drove my car for one hour on
the trip home and the issue happened again. The shop says that when they put
it on the computer test they didn't see anything. I hope my car is not done. I was
in 70 degree weather this time. Is there anything that sounds familiar?

Answer
Trula,

Have them check the mass airflow sensor and make sure it is working properly.  Second, if it is working check to see if the converter is melted.  Those are the two things that come to mind.  The air meter will not throw a code for some reason.  But, if they do an ohms check they should be able to tell if it is defective.
