Nissan Repair: 97 Nissan Altima not starting, nissan altima, speciality shop

Question
I've had my car diagnosed (it won't start) by a dealer who told me the distributor needed replacing.  He told me it would cost $733.  Is this an outrageous price?

Answer
Dee,

For a dealer the price is within reason.  If you went aftermarket the distributor is over three hundred dollars.  Plus, there is the installation charge.  And, my bet is they are replacing wires and plugs for that price.  If not, you might want to ask a speciality shop what their charge would be.  You can negotiate to get a better price.
