Nissan Repair: failure to accelerate, hi mary, distributor cap

my daughter's 99 nissan is having loss of power/stalling when we accelerate.  it starts with no problem and idles, just can't get it going.  What can cause this?

Hi Mary -

First off, I would check the tune up items, unless that has been done already. Spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor could have carbon tracking.

Can you get back to me on this? Also, more info - when you try to accelerate, does it hesitate, kind of coughs? Or does the engine die?
