the a/c of our van is not very cold. we tried to bring it to an auto shop to add freon, but they do work on old models. is it possible to do it ourselves?  if it is, how and what do we need to add freon?  thanks!

You have an older vehicle that uses R-12 and not R-134.  I would search around and find a place that works on old R-12 systems as a first step.  If no one in the area will do this you could have yours converted to the R-134.  But, it does not cool as good as the original R-12.  But, if that is all there is you will be stuck.  I do not know where you live?  You could check out the internet to source the equipment and R-12.  But, if your nation is part of the Montreal Protocol you are stuck with doing a conversion.
