Nissan Repair: Starting a 96 nissan pick up 2.4 engine., spark plug wire, nissan truck

Question
Hello,
Well i have a problem with my 4 cylinder 2.4 1996 Nissan truck.  It turns over but it will not start.
I took the distributor off and put a different one in it, but it is a old one not new, and the same thing happens turns but won't start.
I put some ether in the intake manifold and cranked it but nothing.
Also the truck was approximately parked for 1 month - month and a half and the fuel was a little low.
Also i cannot hear the fuel pump when i turn the key to turn it on.

What should i do or check??????

Answer
Hi Brian -

Let's start from the beginning - Cars do not start for 2 reasons, no spark, or no gas.

To check spark, remove one spark plug wire and insert a screwdriver so it wedges against the metal terminal inside. Hold the screwdriver about 1/4" away from any metal surface of the vehicle while someone turns the engine. There should be a spark jumping between the screwdriver and metal surface. BE CAREFUL not to touch any metal surface while you do this please! If there is no spark, I would replace the ignition module and check the distributor cap and rotor.

Check the fuel delivery. Loosen the fuel line where it connects to the injector rack (do not have to remove it). Turn the ignition on momentarily and there should be a good amount of fuel leaking out. If not, then check the fuel pump or fuse.

There is a possiblility of contaminated gasoline if the car has been sitting a while also.

Thank you -
