Nissan Repair: 1996 Nissan Maxima GV, fuel system treatment, carburetor jets

Question
QUESTION: the stuttering only occurs during the morning normally when it's cold out and is fine later on in the day and it doesn't vibrate when going up hills or anything like that unless it's in the morning then when i had the car tuned three weeks ago to fix the problem the mechanics told me that the cars drive belt simply needed tightening to stop the power steering from going out when turning while braking and they found a lot of gunk somewhere in the motor but i forget exactly where they also mentioned a wire in the cars computer (sorry not sure witch one) wasn't hooked in so when they had fixed that and i brought it home i could start the engine and the idling seems okay at 1200rpm when in P but as soon as i place it in gear the engine just shuts off (i also noticed when i placed it in gear the RPM'S went down to just under 1000rpm), and have had the car towed to the mechanics four times but problem persists sometimes it will work like today but any day or time it will just do the same thing they also replaced the spark plugs.

Problems:
1: Power steering stops working sometimes then other times it works and the belt is fine
2: bad stuttering in the morning normally when cold then improves throughout the day.
3: idling seems fine but drops a little when changing out of Park Gear on a good day and most days it just stalls when i change it out of Park into another gear.

whats been fixed by mechanic: Spark Plugs, Knock sensor and cable, they flushed through old fluids and now the power steering fells a little lighter at idle, an engine management service, they found that it stalls intermittantly/cold, they did a fuel system treatment clean the injectors and maintain even fuel atomization from injector, they removed alldeposits of lacuer gum deposits from carburetor jets, accelerator pump, float valve assembly, and throttle plate and free sticking valves, removed varnish, carbonand gum deposits from the upper cylinders, pistons, piston rings, and valve areas-thus restoring full compression and power and a major service

very sorry about this being so long but i didn't know any other way to put it sorry.

thank you so much for your time and effort on this problem.

ANSWER: Hi Ben -

I have emailed this question to me so I can think about this. The idle at 1200RPM is too high. Should onnly be about 800 or 900 at the most. Have you tried bringing that down? Sometimes just the jerk of the engine when shifting is enough to kill the engine.

I will get back to you though, please give me your email, mine is cjiwash@yahoo.com.

Thanks
calvin

QUESTION: i brought the car back to the mechanics for 2 days and they did an idle adjustment just like you mentioned and now it idles at about 800rpm in Park and lower (like 650 700)in the other gears and they said that they have driven it twice a day and it is fine i just went to pick it up today and when i was driving it home it stuttered again from the front end of the car and this was in the warm heat as well, in park it's good until you place it in any other gear the rpm's start dropping and stalling unless i push on the accelerator then it stays in low rpm for a sec or so then jumps like it was trying to gain some energy before moving so the problem has gotten better and i hope this was more specific for your information needs, besides when i brought the car straight back to the mechanic he started it again and went for a drive and it worked fine afterwards it must have a very Intermittant problem with it huh?

thank you very much for putting up with me.

Answer
Hi Ben -

Thanks for the information and the update. You are correct. It does sound intermittent, and it also sounds like a fuel problem.

I am going to check with my fellow mechanics and get their feedback.

Thanks for being patient -=
