Nissan Repair: Nissan ka24 timing chain, nissan ka24, static check

Question
We replaced the timing chain with a new one and we are having problems setting it correctly? Everything on the chain is lined up, motor is set on compression at TDC and after lining up the chain marks and reassembled it acts like it is 180 out. Like the head is out of sync with the motor. What would cause this?

Answer
Elizabeth,

If the marks line up it should not be 180 out mecahnically.  However, the distributor can be out 180 since it has a drive dog and can be installed 180 out.  I would do a static check of the timing by rotating the engine until air blows out the number one sparkplug hole. Once this is accomplished hand rotate the crank until number one is on the mark.  Now, check to see if number one intake valve begins to move as you rotate the engine.  If it does you are fine.  I would check for the distributor first.
