Nissan Repair: 1993 maxima, piston damage, interference engine

Question
the car was on the highway and stalled will not start removed the cap and turned the engine over the rotor is not moving I belive the timing belt is bad is this engine that type the pistons will hit the valves and damage them or the piston the engine is a v6 single cam

Answer
Bill,

Yes, it sounds like the timing belt broke and it is an interference engine so you could have bent some valves.  No way to check the compression unless you put a new belt on and do the check for compression.  You might get lucky depending on how it turned off.  Also, if it is an automatic you have more luck of the valves not being bent.  I have never seen any piston damage that required piston replacement.  But, I have seen where valves were bent and had to be replaced.  So, if it were me I would put a belt on and then do a compression check and see where you are.  You might get lucky and you might end up taking the heads off for a valve job and some replacement valves.
