Nissan Repair: 96 Nissan Altima wont start, neutral safety switch, nissan altima

Question
I just bought my daughter a '96 Altima and it ran great for 2 days. When you turn the ignition key, the lights come on so battery has juice but there is ABSOLUTELY no sound coming from the engine. Ideas as to what to check much appreciated.

Answer
Anna,

You either have a bad starter or a defective neutral safety switch.  If it is an automatic try turning the key while shifting from park to neutral.  If it starts you found the problem.  If not hot wire the starter by bridging from the small wire over to the large positive cable and if it starts you know it is the neutral safety switch.  If not replace the starter.
