hi,nissan almera 1.4cc 1996 model,27000 miles, starts and runs exellent, will idle on driveway for hours, but when driving, as you depress the clutch to approach a juction,it will cut out,it will start imedietly, this may only happen 3/4 times a day.not all the time.could it be the idle control valve?sticking?
-----Answer-----
Kelvin,

Check the idle air control motor on the throttle body and the dashpot that the throttle stop screw rests against.  If the dampner is no longer slowing the throttle plate stop it will kill the engine only sometimes.  Also, a dirty throttle body and idle air motor passage will do the same thing on decelleration.  When you push in the clutch and let off the gas it dies sometimes?  Try letting off the gas slower and see if it stays running and you have your answer.  I would just check the above and clean the thr0ottle body and related components.  Do not get carburetor cleaner on the throttle position switch.  Anyway, let me know if you need more.

Answer
Kelvin,

If your Almera is carbureted you should clean the throttle plates and see where the throttle linkage connects to it.  With the motor off have someone push the throttle and let off.  You observe where the throttle stops against.  It should be a dashpot / stepper motor.  If the dashpot / stepper motor is defective, when the engine is running, the throttle will close too much and kill the engine.  Now, with the engine running look at how the throttle rests against the dashpot / stepper motor and see if it is loose or is in need of adjustment.  Email me back with what you find.  It is difficult to diagnose without looking at it...
