Nissan Repair: 95 Maxima misfire? and 98 Altima -interior heat low, professional landscaper, ngk plugs

Question
I have read many posts and could not find my problems specifically addressed so I'll ask here.
1) 95 Maxima GLE, 165K, new NGK plugs, replaced one coil last year. Car will infrequently be hard to start, aprrox. 3X in last year. Car will occasionally stall at a light in drive(20-30x). Always restarts immediately, ran fine otherwise. Recently I can feel it missing under hard accel., MPG approx. 10% below normal on 1000 mile trip. Have used fuel inj. cleaner, ran 1 tank premium, no help. Mechanic checked for codes-none showing.
2) 98 Altima SE, 175K. Heater will not blow HOT even at max. heat setting on slide, only blows warm. I have not backflushed or checked for air in system, antifreeze in system and engine temp. normal at all times.
I am able to perform most mechanical chores but think I may need diagnostics on the 95 Maxima. Please steer me in the right direction for these issues. Thanks in advance for providing your expertise at no cost, it is truly invaluable and I applaud you for your servant's heart.
I was a professional landscaper 14 years ago and still field questions in this area.

Answer
Rick,

Replace the thermostat and that should take care of the heat problem.  Use Nissan thermostat since it is much better than the aftermarket.  Do not backflush the block since the pressure will blow the heater core.  Just fill, run and drain a couple of times.  Fill with 50/50 mix of antifreeze and demineralized water.  The fuel pump relay should be replaced since it is probably the cause of the slow start thing you describe.  Over ten years old...  Stalling could be caused by the throttle body needing to be cleaned.  Or the dampner on the throttle could be going out.
