Nissan Repair: 97 Altima starter noise, haynes manual, altima

My car starts but it makes a grinding noise so I guess that eliminates the solenoid. It is getting worse. I have a 5 speed Altima. What could be happening and if it is the starter how do you remove the mounting bolts to the starter? Thanks for your help!

Sounds like the starter or the ring gear are getting ground up.  I would remove the starter and diagnose which it is.  You can remove the starter by taking the two bolts off that hold it on and then inspecting the teeth and drive.  Get a Haynes manual as it has great photographs.  There are only two bolts that hold it on so it is not really difficult to get it out.
