Nissan Repair: 95 maxima stalling, dashpot, electronic diagnostics

Question
Hello again, ended up replacing the AAC Valve Assy.  Car ran ok for a few weeks but problem is back.  Car dies as you are slowing down, but not always ie: to make a turn , coming to a stop sign or light ect.  Always starts right back up, doesn't always happen either.  Any additional thoughts?  Thanks Jay.

have a 95 maxima w/ 135k miles.  recently as my son was driving along and the car stalled, almost like it ran out of gas, except it started right up again.  has happened again several times, usually when he is slowing down.  had the car at two repair shops, problem still exists.  no check engine light coming on.  one shop replaced gas pump and seal, the other adjusted the idle and cleaned the throttle.  second shop also put it on electronic diagnostics and nothing came up.  any thoughts or ideas?

Jay,

It could be a couple of things and you already eliminated the fuel pump and the throttle body itself.  I would check the dashpot that slows down the idle when you let off the gas.  That is, where the throttle stops is a dampner that slows down closing of the throttle.  If this is worn out the throttle will shut fast killing the engine.  An over rich condition will kill the car and then it will start right back up.  Check it out and email me back.

Answer
Jay,

If it dies when making a turn and slowing down it could be the power steering switch on the pressure side of the power steering pump.  Check to see if the pressure switch pumps the idle up when you just turn the wheel.  We are only talking about a couple of inches of turn.  You see, the pressure switch tells the computer to bump the idle up.  And, if it does not work the car will die or idle so low that it will almost die.  Sounds like if it is doing this and even when the car is not turning it could be the AAC port being plugged or the dashpot not slowing the throttle plate when it slams shut for idle.  It is not supposed to as the dashpot slows the decent of the throttle plate to full idle.
