Nissan Repair: 92 maxima oil pump, low oil pressure, oil pumps

Question
Does the engine have to come out to replace the oil pump on a 92 maxima with 3.0?

Answer
Jeff,

It is on the end of the engine and as such the engine does not have to be removed.  Just remove the front cover and everything that precludes access to it and then remove the pump and replace it.  Now, if you are replacing it for low oil pressure you might change the oil pressure sensor first to see if it is defective.  If it is not and the pressure it low you could have worn bearings.  But, I have seen oil pumps wear out in the past so I was just mentioning other things that will result in low oil pressure.
