I have a 2003 Nissan Altima and I believe the AC is causing the car to stop. Why is this happening?

If the compressor is locked up or really dragging it will cause the engine to die or at least make the belt slip.  You probably have a bad compressor and need it replaced and if so you will need a receiver dryer installed too.  You can check the compressor by spinning the center section by hand with the engine off.  If it does not move or moves really slow you know the compressor is defective.  Now, I am not talking about the pulley.  The center part that locks in place when the compressor is on.  Do this while the car is off.
