Nissan Repair: Nissan Engine Swap, smog equipment, automatic tranny

Question
I  have a 1986.5 SE-V6 4x4 pickup with a VG30(e) engine in it, that has started smoking (I suspect worn rings). The truck has a 5-speed standard transmission

I have been offered an engine that came out of a 1985 non-turbo 300ZX. (It's one of those "used" engines that comes from Japan). The guy who has the engine says it is the same engine as the one in my truck, except that  the 300ZX had an automatic tranny.

My questions are:

1. Are the engines from these two vehicles really the same engine?

2. What would I need in the way of parts, procedures, etc., to make the swap?

3. How about going from automatic (300ZX) to 5-speed standard tranny (my truck)?

Your helpful input will be much appreciated.

Answer
Jay,

The engine will fit but you will need to can parts from your truck engine to make the swap complete.  You will need to swap your smog equipment over to the new engine and you will need a new pilot bearing for the new engine as it was for an automatic and there was not one installed.  I would take the new engine and set it beside the old one and take all the parts from the old one and transfer them over.  I have found that this is a good time to install new engine mounts too.
