Nissan Repair: brake pad replacement, caliper piston, piston compressor

Question
how to change brake pads on an nissan 1990 nx coupe

Answer
Thomas,

You will need some tools to do the job like a 14 millimeter wrench or socket to take the caliper bolt loose and a caliper piston compressor.

Jack the vehicle up and be sure to use jackstands to support the vehicle along with blocking the wheels on the ground.

Take the wheel off and then loosen both caliper bolts.  Remove both of them and slide the caliper off the rotor.  Pull off the pads and not which one with the noise maker is on which side of the rotor.  Replace the pads with new ones.  Compress the piston with the caliper piston compressor and one of the old pads.  Once the piston bottoms remove the tool and old pad and put it back on the rotor and reinstall the bolts.  Be sure to use a wire coat hanger to hold the caliper up to keep from hanging it by the brake hose.  A chilton or Haynes manual has a good pictorial section for this process.
