Nissan Repair: 86 Pulsar wont start, crank angle sensor, power transistor

Question
I have an 86 Pulsar that won't start. This is the 3rd time it has been a problem. It will turn over just not start. I have replaced the coil, crank angle sensor, battery connectors, positive battery cable, the starter& battery (has been double checked), but I still do not have a spark from the coil to distributor. I have the "ECCS" ignition system..but this car has been "pieced" together over the years with "compatable" parts. Next to the coil there is a "power transistor" or something I can not seem to find in detailed descriptions. Could this be it or do you have any other items it could be. Help!! I miss driving this car since its my baby! Thank you so much for any help you can provide.

Answer
Cossnadra,

The part you describe is the transistorized ignition module.  I would check the distributor for oil on the optics before I replaced the module.  Take the cap, rotor post and cover off and check for oil on the LED and receiver.  There is a shiny wheel with slots punched in it to tell the computer when to fire the plugs.  If there is oil on it it will not work properly.  That is what I think so check it out and let me know...
