Nissan Repair: 94 Nissan PU Water Pump, radiator cap, waterpump

Question
Is it possible for a newbie to put a water pump on a '94 Nissan PU, 2-wheel drive, 4 cyl?
Do I buy a manual and go to it? Could you recommend a manual?

Answer
KE,

Yes, I would think you would have all the skills required to replace a waterpump.  I would buy the factory manual if you wanted detailed instructions.  But, it is not necessary since you can see the waterpump and all you have to do is remove all the things that are connected and then remove he waterpump.  So, basically, remove the belts and hoses that connect to the pump and then remove the pump and scrape the gasket off and replace it with a new gasket and waterpump.  Fill the radiator with a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and distilled water.  Do not backflush the engine as it will make your heater core fail down the road.  Also, clean the catch tank and replace the radiator cap and thermostat while you have the system open.  If you do not want to spring for a factory service manual you can go to nissanusa.com and access their database and download the section you want on .pdf for $20 bucks.
