Nissan Repair: 2003 V-6 Altima ETC ACTR diagnosis results, electronic throttle control, diagnosis results

Question
This has happen only two times, but I do not want it to happen while on the road.  On the two previous occasions, I attempted to start the car; however, it would not "take hold".  Eventually after sitting several hours and having it towed to a service department while out-of-town on business, it started.  Their diagnostic results indicated "ETC ACTR (P1121).  When asked, they said it was the Electronic Throttle Control Actuator, but they indicated they have never seen this go bad in a car.  They cleared the "SES" light, and said it probably would not happen again.  Well, it did, yesterday.  What do you suggest?  This is the only problem I have had with the car.

Answer
Remember that you have a drive by wire car.  That is to say the throttle pedal is only connected to a resistor that lets the computer know how much to open the throttle body.  When they first came out on Nissan in 2000 there was a problem where the pedal would go too far down and allow the resistor to go past where it should.  Nissan replaced several of these pedals under warranty.  No the Nissan I have never seen the throttle control actuator fail.  I suppose your car is out of warranty?  You will not be happy with the price if it is the actuator as the codes indicate.  Check with Nissan to see if you are still covered and if not you best order one.  I hope you have a factory service manual as there is a learning process when you install a new throttle actuator or pedal.
