Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: slippage during cruising, oldsmobile cutlass ciera, oldsmobile cutlass

Question
Hi Van,

My Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera got a very long mileage already. Recently I noticed that occasionally I got a feeling of a sudden slippage just like the feeling when the automatic transmission shift during driving. This happens usually when the car is under cruising or after I stopped accelerating for a while. What could be wrong with my car?

Thanks in advance and best regards,

Ning

Answer
Hi,
I would check the fluid, for both level, and condition, to see if it is burnt.
It is possible a clutch is wearing out, but it is also possible that it is just sucking some air past a hardened "O"ring on the filter. A fluid change might fix it right up.
At least that would allow you to see what kind of stuff is laying in the transmission oil pan.
