Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 1992 Buick LeSabre 3.8, compressor clutch, buick lesabre

Question
1992 Buick LeSabre 3.8

I have two issues with this car.  First the check engine light is on and the code is for the cam position sensor.  I replaced the sensor, but the light still is on and showing the same code.  I did erase the code but it came back.

The A/C compressor is not engaging.  It has plenty of freon.  I am getting voltage at the low pressure switch on the accumulator, but no power to the compressor (clutch).  I did bypass the low pressure switch and the compressor still does not engage.  Could it be the compressor relay, and if so, which relay would it be?

Thanks,

Tim

Answer
Hi,Tim

On the cam sensor, check all connections and terminals at the cam sensor, make sure the wiring isnt rubbed through and grounded,if the wiring checks good then it sounds like either the new cam sensor is faulty or you have a failed ECM.
On the ac compressor, the relay is located at the underhood relay center at the firewall, the ac comp clutch relay when counting from left to right is in position #1,you can attempt to swap it with another relay of the same type to check if the clutch engages, position #2 is the horn relay #3 is the blower relay #4 is the blower off relay #5 is ABS relay #6 ABS pump relay #7 high speed cooling fan #8 low speed cooling fan.
