Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 1987 Buick LeSabre..., crankshaft pulley, crank shaft

Question
I have to replace the crank shaft pulley on my 87 LeSabre.  I've located it and have tried to remove it but it keeps spinning when I try to loosen the bolt.  I was hoping you could give me some suggestions about how to lock it in place so that I could loosen the bolt.  Thank You...

Answer
Hello Eddie,
Sometimes you can stick a rag in the space between the belt and pulley. And it helps to smack the wrench in the direction you want to turn it, rather than just pull.
There are usually some bolt holes threaded into the crankshaft pulley for a puller. Screw some bolts into the holes, and use a long screwdriver, or tire iron between the bolts to hold the pulley.
