Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: shifting, vehicle speed sensor, throttle position sensor

Question
i have a 1999 olds sillo van, after you drive it for awhile the transmision will shift gears really hard, but if you turn the van off and wait a few seconds the problem stops for awhile again.  what could be my problem?  thanks steve!

Answer
What mechanical work or ANY kind of work has been performed on the vehicle recently ?. As most problems that occur after a recent repair was made can be traced back to the area of where the repair was made as a wire connection may have come loose. Look around in the area where work was performed

When was the last time you had the transmission filter and fluid changed ?.

The FIRST think that needs to be performed is a transmission pressure tset procedure using a KNOWN GOOD transmission gage and the expertise to be able to interpret what the pressure readings MEAN.

Possibilities are:

1. You could have a small piece of foreign debris no larger than a garin of salt stuck in one of the electronic transmission solenoids and of shift valves in the transmission of which a transmission FLUSH and filter change MIGHT flush out this debris and correct your problem.

2. Faulty Pressure control solenoid.

3. Faulty trans fluid temp sensor.

4. faulty Throttle Position sensor.

5. Faulty vehicle speed sensor.

6. Inaccurate trans fluid pressure.

7. Engine coolant temp sensor.

All of these components need to be tested.
