Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: Motor Mount, intake manifold gasket, dexcool antifreeze

Question
I just bought my daughter a 91 Olds 98 and it has an antifreeze leak.  Coolant is collecting between the front valve cover gasket and the intake manifold.  I have checked the upper radiator hose and the thermostat housing and they seem to be fine.  Where do you think this leak might be coming from?  Someone told me that the intake manifold on this car is cooled by coolant, is this true?

Answer
Hello Charles,
I can't say that it is cooled by the coolant, but coolant does flow through it.
Intake manifold gasket is what it takes to fix it.

There were a lot of problems with some intake manifold gaskets, and it was blamed on the DexCool antifreeze by a lot of people, but I'm not sure it wasn't a gasket material problem.
Call the Olds dealer, and talk to the service manager, and see if your car may be covered by a no-time-limit campaign on that gasket. It is possible you could get it fixed free, no matter how many miles are on it, if it fell under that campaign.
Have the VIN number ready when you call.
