hi pete,causes a lot of trouble ,,lol..no the ecm is the engine control module.this processor is just that it processes all the info that all the sensors on the engine send to it,then it uses these signals to adjust fuel fi re and compression,and make the engine run at top effenciency and pollution free.so it and all the sensors work as a team .if it goes out ,you may not have fuel or spark or could run bad.so it is a very important part of your engine performing properly.hope this helps.please rate my help ty billymac
