Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 1986 Oldsmoblie 98 3.8L fuel filter replacement and high altitude problems, fuel filter replacement, car rest

Question
Where is the fuel filter located on this car?

This all stems from my car dying many times driving over a Colorado mountain pass(max 11,200 ft.).  I had to let the car rest for 10-40 minutes before it would drive again.  Once I returned to about 7000 ft. problem seems to persist, where it ran fine before.  Only once was I not going up a hill when it died.

I am starting my changing the fuel filter and spark plugs.  Should I change the fuel pump as well?  Is there anything else I should be concerned about?

Thank you very much,
Aaron Costello

Answer
Hello Aaron,
I had an 86 Chevy, and it had a carburetor. Thus, the fuel filter was in the fitting where the fuel line connects to the carb.
The altitude problem that I have run into requires changing the timing up there, and then changing it back in lower country.
