Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 86 Olds Calais V6, vacuum line, spherical object

Question
I have been having trouble getting my Calais to start.  It had a hard vacuum line that went from the vacuum block to some spherical object with a vacuum inlet under the glovebox (next to the vehicle computer).  This line broke and it would not start back up.  I bought a new line and had to rig it a little to adjust for length.  Now it tries to start . . . the engine will turn with some loud squealing (not sure from where) but will not fully start and run.  When the hard vacuum line was fully disconnected the engine would turn extremely slow with a squeal or not at all.  I have had the battery and starter tested as well.  Any help would be great.

Answer
Hi Coby,
See if you can turn the engine over with the fan belt, like at the alternator, or the crankshaft.
I don't know that the vacuum and cranking problems are related. Your engine may be seizing up, or the starter could be worn out. Why it would crank slower, I don't have quite enough information for an informed analysis.
