Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 87 electra died after resuming cruise, crank sensor, blown fuse

Question
i have an 87 electra,3.8l, recently i was going down the highway,on cruise,i slowed, and later hit resume, the cruise engaged,it started to accelerate, then the check engine light came on and it died.after stopping, it cranked over but remained dead.i have a limited amount of tools and even less money, i was thinking fuel pump, i bled the pressure off at the shroeder valve on the fuel rail, recranked the engine and it rebuilt pressure at the rail,i checked for spark and had none at a plug.about a month prior to this i had to change the harmonic balancer it was coming apart, the crank sensor rubbed a little but stopped, Will a bad crank sensor cause a no spark situation? Is there any way to test the sensor?any thoughts?, thanks in advance

Answer
Hi James,
Sounds like the area I would try.
I'm sure there is a way to test it, probably with an ohm meter, but I'm really unfamiliar with the proceedure.
See if you can find a Motors manual, and look the proceedure up.
There are other things that would cause no spark....blown fuse, loose wire connection, ignition switch, etc.
