Pontiac Repair: 1994 Oldsmobile wont start, vacuum leaks, computer connector

Question
Hi Todd,  I haven't needed to ask All Experts for advice in a while, bit it is nice to see you are still working hard! It is impressive that you have answered over 4,000 questions!  Well, I still have my 1994 Olds Silhouette van that you have helped me with in the past. It has a 3.8 motor. Was sitting at a light and the van stalled...never to start again.  Had it towed and I have tried everything for almost a week with no success.  When you turn the key to start, the engine immediately tries to start (you can tell that the fuel has ignited).  This only lasts for 1 - 2 seconds.  If you let go of the key, it immediately stops.  If you hold on to the key, the starter grinds.  The Fuel pump primes (you can hear it whirring), there is 45 - 50lbs of pressure at the fuel rail, Gets good spark at plugs, installed a new oil pressure sensor, replaced the IAC valve and MAF sensor (used from local junk yard).  I have tested the fuel relay and it is good.  All fuses are good. There does not appear to be any vacuum leaks either. When checking for spark, I did notice that the plugs are dry so maybe gas isn't getting to cylinders? I forgot to mention that I replaced the fuel pump assembly (included sending unit) and the fuel filter a little over a year ago.
Any ideas what could be wrong?
Thanks much for your help!
Rick

Answer
Hi rick:

Well I would do a compression test on this and see what you have in all 6 cylinders. that will rule out a mechanical issue. do you have spark on all 6 cylinders? did you take a fule sample and look at it visually? it sould have a greenish/brown tint to it and smell like fule. have you checked for injetor pulse on all 6 cylinders? That vinatge van had was was known as the red/white blue ecm meaning the colors of the engine computer connector colors those ecm's were notted to go bad all the time. Uusally they would rop cylinders for injetor pulse. Not telling you to go out and but one just to try because they are expnsice!!! But it's another thing to look at. Also take a look at the ground wires on the engine to tranmission mounting studs those wires ger green and cheesy. give the wires a tug if any of them break off you may have found the issue. I know I'm all over the board here but those are common things to look at on those vans. good luck :-)
