Pontiac Repair: engine stalls, pontiac grand prix, engine stalls

i have a 2001 pontiac grand prix. the problem that i am having is that the engine stalls while im driving, the rpm gauge drops to zero, and the oil light comes on. it starts back up but sometimes i have to press the gaas pedal while i crank it for it to start and stay running. it also does it while it idles and while u are barely pressing the gas pedal. what could it be?

what engine is in this? 3800 or 3100? When it dies is it like someone just turned the key off ands it dies or does it spit sputter and chug then die? It makes a difference as to which whay you go to find the issue. It could be fuel related or ignition system related. No service engine soon light has come on on this I assume?
