Question
QUESTION: How hard is it to replace an o2 sensor in an 1997 Grand Prix GTP
3.8 fuel injected the dealer wants to charge $400.00 I know the part is only $80.00 and have already been under the car and know where it is.

 Also they say the front bearings in the super charger are going, can I just unhook for now?

ANSWER: Hi David:

it depends on which sensor it is. the one pre or post converter. neither one is too bad to do other then trying to gain access to the one on the engine. You need an O2 sensor sockey to get it off. it's a special 7/8" socket with a slit in the side of it so the wires can pass through it. the one in the pipe is usually seized so you will need a torch to heat the pipe to get it out. other then that not a bad job. DO NOT BUY a cheap sensor get an AC Delco sensor only from the dealer or Delco parts supplier. good luck :-}

QUESTION: the dealer also says the supercharger front bearings are getting bad can I just unhook it for now ?  thanks for getting back so quickly I will give you an excelent rating

Answer
You can just take the belt off it and run it that way but the performance will be affected. You can find repair kits on line for the super charger. There is a company that sells a "nose" kit for it you don't need to replace the whole super charger. doo a google search for that year and model car eaton super charger repair kit.
