My power window started smoking from the switch area and no longer works, do you think the problem is with the actual switch or the motor?

The answer is more then likely both. I'm sure the switch is bad now but what caused it? did the switch get wet from rain/snow on it? if not then I would suspect that either the motor for what ever window you were using has an excessive draw (short) or the wring to the motor may be shorted in the pass through between the car and the actual door the motor is in other then the left front because all the wiring for that motor is just in that dor alone. good luck :)
