Pontiac Repair: 2006 pontiac grand prix, the charging system failure light is on and the engine lights is on., pontiac grand prix, battrey

Question
Hi! We have a 2006 pontiac grand prix. 6 cylinder. My husband went to the Philippines for 2 weeks so i was the one who is warming up the car every other day for 5 to 10 minutes. When he got back, he tried starting the car and it won't start and the charging system failure light is on and also the engine icon light is on too. I called Canadian tire and they said that it might be the battery, then i told them that the engine light is on and they told me that just get the car tow and let them diagnose it. and it's 200 dollars just to diagnose the problem... So before going to do that, i would like to get a second opinion on what is really wrong with our car. Hope you can help us. And also the keyless entry remote( the lock button don't work so my husband have to manually lock from inside the car) And also when he starts the car there is a sound like high pich and when he start driving the car the sound will go away... and it happens most of the time. we had the dealer check on it and they said theres no problem with the transmission. well we don't really know about cars. We bought the car second hand and it's only 8 months with us. hope you guys can help us...

Answer
Hi there:

Well it seems like a lot off issues here but they me be inter twined. The charging system failure can be set due to low battery volatge. If the car not been driven and juyst ran for a few minutes at a time the battrey will not fully charge back up and then cause the lamp on. as for the engine light that can be a lot of things. untill you know what code is stored you guess is a sgood as mine as to what is cauing that. a lot of the big box auot parts stores will scan a car for codes for free see what they come up with. As for the remote(S) Very common for that vinatge car that the remotes go bad either completly in op or just one of more buttons don't work. Lastly for the noise with out hearing it I can't help you out with that unless the battery is so discharged the alternator is over working cauing the noise. good luck :)
