Pontiac Repair: Heater fan switch, blower motor resistor, heater fan

I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am, the heater fan knob doesnt work in position 1 and 2. But fan blows in 3 4 5 positions.  What could be the problem?

Hi there:

Your car needs a blower motor resistor. The first 2 speeds have burnt out soon to be followed by the remaining speeds as well. VERY common on this car. Get one from the dealer the part has been redesigned and should not fail again. It's located under the dash on the right side of the car next to the glower motor wich is under the glove box.good luck.
