Pontiac Repair: 2000 Olds Alero BCM issues?, olds alero, fuse boxes

Question
I have a 2000 Olds Alero 2.4L that quit running half way out garage one morning. At the same time the sunroof, turn signals, radio quit. Can not hear fuel pump run with ignition turned 'ON'. Cranks but does not start. Checked all fuses and relays, appear OK. Was having trouble with turn signals randomly quitting last several weeks, then recover. Can all this be due to a 'blown' BCM? Does BCM control all these components and circuits?

Answer
Hi Fred:

does the car crank but not start? I think you have multiple issues here. The turn signals are their own issue most likley the 4 way flasher switch is bad it controls T/S as well as 4 eays. As for the radio and sun roof they don't have much in common. is there anything else in the car that does work like the blower motor on "hi" or the wipers or power windows interior lamps? have you actually check for fuel pump pressure? just because you hear it run doesn't mean it has enough pressure to allow the engine to run. a lot of times the pumps go out on these due to a plugged filetr and the pump is over worked and goes bad. when you "checked" the fuses did you actaully put a 12 Volt test light on the fuese to see if the lamp lit bright on all the run and accy fuese? if the lamp is dim on several fuses and bright on others I would suspect a bad ignition switch. the contacts in the switches have a arching and it creates high resistance and the end result is less then battery voltage at parts of the fuse boxes. Here is another though seeing that this car has a sun rook ceck to amke sue the fuses boxes on either side of the dash have no signs of water in them usually the relays will shows signs of corrosion. good luck :)
