Pontiac Repair: oil consumption and remote starter, weight oil, oil consumption

Question
Hi I have 2 questions first is my 2007 Grand Prix is using a quart to qaurt and a half every 1000 miles, I have taken it to a repair shop and after no leaks were found I was told this is just a GM thing that it is considered 'acceptable' I have owned many makes, and models of cars most 5-15 years old and have NEVER had to put in oil between oil changes. I do not think this is acceptable at all but with no leaking I'm afraid I will get a similar asnwer from other shops. What do you think and or recommend? Second part my keyless entry/remote starter both factory is starting to work very sporadically remote battery replaced within about 3 mos ago so i dont think thats it but I have to repeatedly push on the buttons before the car will respond I have tried from all angles thinking that maybe the receiver is blocked somehow but it doesnt seem to make a difference. Any suggestions would be appriciated.

Answer
Hi Erin:

a qt. per 2,000 miles is what GM calls "acceptable" that is under noraml non agressive driving. If you do a lot of highway driving it can be higher. Do you use a "good" brand of oil in this car and of a non synthetic type? a lot of fast oil changes use poor quality oil and or the wrong weight oil to save $ on doing the job. If the car has a lot of miles on  it say more then 75,000 I would up the grade to a 10-30 or 10-40 oil that car calls for 5-30.  If after you change the oil and use a "GOOD" brand and the right weight oil then you have to start looking for a reason why but not untill then. As for the keyless entry most of the issues we have with these cars is the remotes and nothing else. If the car has tinted windows "aftermarket tint" that will decrease the range and cause issues. but other then that no other problems other then the remotes. Good luck :)
