Pontiac Repair: 99 pontiac sunfire, pontiac sunfire, engine computer

i had a motor replaced in a 99 pontiac sunfie. the transmission was fine before this was done. now when i got the car back from the back yard mechanic(dumb me knew better then that). the car acts like it is stuck in frist gear. i can get about 15 mph running at 4000 rpms and want shift what would cause this. also speedometer is not working

Hey Larry:

does this have a 4 speed transmission or a 3 speed? I'm gonna guess 4 speed. Reason being that transmission it an electrically controlled transmission. And if you do not have a VSS input to the engine computer it will not up shift. My guess is they either left the speed sensor unplugged or broke the sensor off something like that.. good luck:)
