Pontiac Repair: 2000 Pontiac Grand AM SE, blown fuses, abs service

Question
There seems to be two issues and I'd like some help trying to solve.  Recently the brake lights that are tied with the tail lights stopped working, but the 3rd brake light on the wing still works.  Suddenly the instrument panel has stopped working as well, tachometer, speedometer, fuel gauge, etc.

Research has told me to clean and regrease the multifunction switch to solve the brake light problem, is this a good place to start?  Then I've read about the BCM, and possibly the ignition causing the instrument cluster problem.  Any help and detail would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Gregg:

well with out seeing this it's hard to say. I think you have multiple issues here. When you say dash lights do you mean the back lighting doesn't work when the head/park lamps are on or the indicators do not work. You said the gauges quit but hoew about the abs, service engine soon etc..?

As for the tail lamps if it doesn't have any blown fuses then I would suspect possably tail lamp ckt. boards those go all the time.. How about the blower motor does that work on this car? You could have an ignition switch issue here where it's not powering up the fuse box fully due to high resiatnace in the switch contacts that is pretty common also. But again without seeing this and knowing if any trouble codes are set it's hard to say what the issues here are but Like I said you havew more then 1 thing going on. Good luck :)
