Pontiac Repair: fuel gauge inaccurate readings, fuel level sensor, fuel system treatment

Question
i have a 97 grand prix SE.    My fuel gauge shows me that i have a full tank after driveing a couple hundred miles or it seems to tell me how much i have but i feel that i actually have less gas than what it tells me. it gives me inaccurate readings. i have tried resetting the computer and that has not helped at all.

Answer
Hey Mitchell:

The fuel level sensor on the fuel pump module is more then likely bad. you need to replace that sensor. Do not go aftermarket with one buy the original GM part from a dealer along with a bottle of fuel system treatment for fuel level sensor longevity and use it a couple of times a year. The additives in the fuel eat away at the sensor. good luck :)
