Pontiac Repair: 84 pontiac bonneville a/c, pontiac bonneville, o rings

Question
I'm changing out the a/c compressor and i want to refill with the original r-12 refrigerent. Do i need to replace all o-rings or just the two on the back of the compressor? Also, do i have to change out the drier?

Answer
Hey Johnny:

First off are you able to obtain some r-12? If not ytour going to have to convert the system to 134A which is what all the news cars have in them.. If you do have R-12 then only replace the o-rings at the compressor lines. If you have to do the converstion then all the o-rings need to be replaced. The r-12 o-rings are not compatable with the 134A. What happened to the old compressor If it is just leaking and you are doing the r-12 then NO you don't have tro replace the accumulator but some parts stores will not cover a warranty on a compressor if you do not replace it. If the compressor came apart on the inside and was noisey Yes replave the accumulator along with the orfice tube in the system. Good Luck :)
