Pontiac Repair: 1993 Pontiac Bonneville Brake Light, pontiac bonneville, wheel cylinders

Question
My '93 Pontiac Bonneville Brake Light comes on when going around a sharp corner and then a dinging bell rings. The owners manual says the Parking brake is on,but it isn't. What could cause this?

Answer
Hi Bill:

That lamp is for 2 things. Yes it's for the parking barke and also if the fluid is low in the master cylinder. The fact that it comes on when making a turn is the key. The brake fluid is low and when you turn the corner the fluid sloshes in the cylinder and it trips the switch in the cylinder. It can be low for a few reasons. Either the front fads have worn down a lot and that will casue the fluid to be low in the cylinder or there is a leak in the system. These cars were noted for wheel cylinders leaking causing the fuild to be low as well. Good luck :)
