Pontiac Repair: Climate Control on 2001 Bonneville,, climate control, blower motor

Question
The climate control buttons on my Bonneville work but the blower does not blow.  A/C lights up and I can feel the cool air in the vents but it doesn;t blow.  I took to a friend and he told me that the control knob which adjusts the fan speed as well as the on and off is bad,, and is very costly to replace,,, any help before i go ahead and spend the money.

Answer
Hey Chuck:

well with out the aid of a scan tool it's hard to say for sure what the issue may be with this car. the blower motor on that car is controlled my a few modules not just the one with the on/off button and temp/blower speeds. it goes into a dash module then a blower control module. With out seeing the data from the control head it's hard to say which unit is the culprit. I don't know if I would condem the control head it's self with out knowing for sure if it's the root cause. You could have a blower motor it's self that went bad. remove the dash bottom cover on the right side of the car and unplug the blower motor and pul in a test light to the purple and black wires turn on the car and then the blower on high and see if the lamp lights. If it lights the blower motor is bad. If not thnen you have to trace it back through the other modules as to why the blower motor doesn't run. Good luck :)
