Pontiac Repair: theft lock on 2001 grand prix gt, nut shell, battery cable

Question
our battery cable came loose so it activated theft lock, we just bought it so we have no idea what the code is from previous owner.  How can we reset this so our car will run?

Answer
Hi Kristen:
well there is a back up code stored in the radio. in order to get that code out of the radio do this. first off push the hour button if it says in op let the car pun for an hour and this is how you get the back up code out of the radio. If the display changes to 3 0's then just let the radio sit there untill the display goes back to LOC. then press and hold presets 2 and 3 on the radio at the same time for about 2-3 seconds it will display a 3 digit code then press the am/fm button it will give you the second 3 digits. once you get those codes call any dealer and tell them you need to obtain a back up code for this radio. they will call a/c delco and get the 3 or 4 digit unlock code for you. when you get that code use use the hour button for the first 2 digits of the code and the minutes button for the second 2 digits once that is entered on the radio press the am/fm button again the display should change to SEC then turn the radio on. That's it in a nut shell. The big problem is getting a dealer to di it for you free of charge!!! Good luck :)
